May homelessness be everywhere
With open door
With open heart
Without a floor
To fall apart.
Should I be blessed to find you there
May homelessness be everywhere.
Poem and photo by Frank Hubeny, member of Prairie Writers Guild. YouTube video from the Light Omega channel with Miten and Deva Premal performing “So Much Magnificence“. Frank’s poem was inspired by tailor STATELY’s prompt “homeless” at online-literature.com and the video. This is linked to dVerse Poetics where Frank is hosting on the theme of frustration and heartbreak.
What a beautiful thought, Frank:
‘Should I be blessed to find you there
May homelessness be everywhere’.
Thank you, Kim!
I love the thought of the hope of finding your way back again.
Thank you, Bjorn!
The way you have taken a word with such negative connotation, such as homelessness, and turned it into a symbol for optimism and love is very skilled.
I was hoping the word, homeless, by itself would suggest all the frustration leaving the rest of the poem to resolve it. I am glad you liked it!
It seems that man is fouling his own nest, that in the future we all may be homeless. Your poem mixes despair and hope in equal measure.
Good point about fouling our own nests. Thank you, Glenn!
Homelessness can be a virtue. Simple and nice!
I suspect one can resolve the frustration of many sufferings. I am glad you liked this!
This is lovely — your last two lines are superb!
Thank you, Jo!
So few words to pack such a wallop. Both thoughtful and thought-provoking!
Thank you, Beverly!
The last two lines of this are excellent.
It was all for those last two lines. I am glad you liked them, Toni!
Very beautiful, Frank, I love this especially:
“With open door
With open heart
Without a floor”
I am glad you liked those. Thank you, Victoria!
We both had homelessness on the mind today, only I like your version much better, and I get it! Last year my husband and I chose to let open road be our home, and the adventure was rewarding in so many ways.
I like how you portrayed homelessness today. You made it seem real which forces it upon our awareness. I am glad you liked this. Thank you, V.J.!
My pleasure, Frank.
Frank- the last two lines- so beautiful!
I am glad you liked them. Thank you, Linda!
Some really good rhythm here. And that repetition says it all. An open heart is all that we all need.
Well-penned.
-HA
It is all we need. Thank you, HA!
homelessness and hopelessness seem to have more in common than we first realise, both chasing an elusiveness but never looking within, strong and emotional words for me this morning from you Frank
Those two words seem like synonyms. I am glad you liked this. Thank you, Gina!
such hope: “Should I be blessed to find you there”
beautiful poem.
Thank you, Sascha!
Love and light overcomes all that is darkness. Very interesting poem.
Thank you, Dwight!
If we are all homeless would we then be on equal ground? Would we then come together and find a place to live?
If would help us see each other differently. That would be a good reason to come together. Thank you, Truedessa!
You manage to give a heartbreaking fact of life a whole new heartwarming meaning…amazingly..and with so few words!
Thank you, Kathy!
What a lovely and unexpected twist.
Thank you, Sarah!
Short and simple, and all the more poignant and lovely for that.
I really loved your prompt.

Thank you, Fireblossom!
What a unique perspective of homelessness. Very optimistic.
Thank you, Teresa!
I especially like, “Without a floor
To fall apart.”
A perspective shift.
Yes, that was a shift in perspective. Thank you, Ali!
I love this, Frank. Such a free-spirited vibe.
Thank you, Shawna!
Brilliant twist at the end, Frank! Sorry I’m so late commenting.
Thank you, Frank!
